If you were online on Monday, you would have seen #SpiderMable popping up on your social media feeds. The hashtag is referring to six-year-old Mable Tooke, an Edmonton girl with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, who had been granted a wish through the Children’s Wish Foundation. Mable spent the day fighting crime with the help of Spiderman, which included saving Oilers Captain Andrew Ference from the evil villain Mysterio.
Her heroism has sparked several events around the city. Local illustrator Jason Blower has teamed up with Print Machine to create a graphic tee with all the proceeds going to Children’s Wish Foundation. Shirts can be pre-ordered and will be delivered in November. Happy Harbor Comics is throwing a meet-n-greet with Tooke this Friday at 4:30 pm. Ten dollars gets you a special print of James R V Clement’s original SpiderMable illustration signed by Tooke, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to leukaemia lymphoma research. In addition, concept designer John Gallagher (Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow) has donated a special art piece that features Mable with Spiderman, which will be auctioned off.
