Ron Hawkins is the former singer/guitarist for Ontario's Lowest of the Low. These days he's shifted away from loud rock 'n' roll—at least for the time being—and released a new solo record, 10 Kinds of Lonely. The sound is more sad country then anything Hawkins has delved into before, but it works—perfectly, actually, as Hawkins explores a darkened landscape and the characters who live within the tales. Hawkins spoke to Vue Weekly recently about the difference in the recording of this album versus his earlier work.

"I was isolated because I did it in my basement pretty much by myself—like I played everything except cello, some vocals and some harmonica. And you know, I'm not a drummer—I can play two instruments, guitar and piano, fairly competently and then the rest of them I just kind of make it up as I go. So I originally I was starting to just record demos and as it was coming along it was sounding so good that I though, 'What the hell, maybe this is the record.'"
