Brody Dalle left the punk guitars behind when her former band the
Distillers came to an end, but she's kept the attitude for Spinnerette. It's
more groove-oriented—almost danceable, really—but still dark and
angry as ever. The difference is that this time Dalle and her bandmates are
working with a few new tricks, subtlety being one of them, and it suits her
well at times. Unfortunately, the album too often gets bogged down in
repetitive swirls that ultimately dilute the impact of the songs. Spinnerette
