Lioness is the sound of 3 am. It’s that moment in the night when you have to make a decision to give up the evening, admit defeat and go home or keep going until your legs fall from under you and you simply and truly cannot dance for a single moment longer. Pulsing bass, drums that boom and a synth sound that grates against your brain like a screwdriven lobotomy, the pulsing of it forces your feet to move. And then, floating vocals from Vanessa Fischer come overtop, sounding like an old radio blasting from the bottom of a well—and I mean that in a good way—and your night is complete. One important thing, though: be sure to leave aspirin and Gatorade on your bedside table. V
