Happy Harbor mixes spirits and graphic novels

Attention fans of comic books and/or George Thorogood/John Lee Hooker: Happy Harbor Comics is about to make your day. On November 7 the shop is hosting its annual fundraiser tasting, this year titled One Bourbon, One Scotch, and One Beer.

It’s upping the ante, however, and pairing three different beers with six different whiskeys, three premium bourbons and three Scotches. That’s 18 different pairing combinations, for those who aren’t keen on the math.

Happy Harbor always donates the funds raised by its annual tastings to local community organizations. This year, it has chosen to support Valour Place Military Family Support House, a temporary home for all Canadian Forces members, Families of the Fallen, veterans and RCMP, along with their families, who require medical treatment in Edmonton and live outside the city/area. Eighty percent of ticket sales will go to support Valour Place, along with 100 percent of the auction item sales.

This year’s auction items includes shows at the Citadel and Winspear, films at Metro Cinema and libations from Sherbrooke Liquor Store. Attendees of the tasting will also receive the third instalment in Happy Harbour’s one-of-a-kind “Super” Scotch tasting cards, designed and illustrated by local artists Dan Schneider and Tracey Risser. Local Scotch blogger the Malt Troll has also donated a rare bottle of Bruichladdich Octomore—the most peated Scotch in the world—to try at this tasting.
