Company: in the flesh theatre
Directed by: Company
Written by: Company
Starring: Ryan Bolton, Tracy Varju, Jennifer Hoar, Christopher Fader, Chalene Scott, Alyssa Kostello
Perhaps not surprisingly, Box is a playful romp all about (are you ready for it?) stepping outside of the box. A tale of working woe, Box introduces an inventive escape from the burning drudgery of day-to-day office life, offering the central character Lee an opportunity to make it up as she goes, rather than be—gasp—chained to her desk for all of eternity. While the performance is somewhat inventive and the company makes relatively good use of their cardboard set, the performance can’t help but feel a titch trite—in an effort to reveal out-of-the-box thinking, these fresh theatre school graduates force themselves back into (for lack of a better word) the box.
