A pop opera of epic proportions, bare follows a group of nearly-graduated Catholic high school teens in a coming of age, coming out anthem exploring intense issues of personal identity, sexuality and acceptance. Expertly executed by a talented cast and live band, the score offers toe-tapping tunes rife with meaningful and hilarious moments. The band, at times, out powers the performers, making the more tender moments easy to miss, but overall the production is inspired and committed, culminating in an emotional climax likely to bring more than a few tears to the eye. Be warned: bare is more than two hours long; in the un-air conditioned Catalyst, watching the performance on a hot day is akin to running a sweaty, uncomfortable marathon.
